Accelerating the Recovery of the Eel
Last year Severn and Wye Smokery ran a pilot scheme to put an eel tank into a local primary school.
The reception class of Highnam C of E school looked after the fish for 12 weeks and during this period they learnt all about the fishery, the dangers of tidal rivers, the environment and the
significance of their actions on them. After the 12 weeks the children restocked the eels back to the wild, helping to secure the future of the eel.
Due to the success of this project, Severn and Wye Smokery has now financed 20 eel tanks for our schools.
